Welcome to Lappnäs
At Lappnäs, you can expect a peaceful stay surrounded by nature, far away from hustle, bustle, and mass tourism, in a small, personally run accommodation. A place to breathe, pause, and truly arrive. The estate was built with donations from emigrants from the Fryksdalen who had settled in America. Since its inauguration in 1928 by Selma Lagerlöf, the exterior of Lappnäs has remained largely unchanged. The history of this place can still be felt today.
Lappnäs is located on a small cape on Lake Fryken, about ten kilometres north of Sunne, on the eastern shore of the lake, with views towards the Tossebergsklätten in the northwest. Surrounded by water, forest, and wide open landscapes, you can experience nature up close and enjoy the special calm of the Fryksdalen.
For many decades, Lappnäs was owned by the Asker family. For around 50 years, the farm was home to Lennart and Rosemarie Asker and their children, who filled the place with life and care. Later on, Lappnäs was transformed into a bed and breakfast and, over many years, shaped by the couple’s warmth, openness, and strong sense of community. Over the past four years, Claes Lennart Asker and Lisbet Malmström continued to run and bring life to the B&B. I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to personally meet Lennart Asker. The encounter with him and the transition of this place are, for me, both a gift and a great responsibility.
On 17 December 2025, a new chapter began for Lappnäs. With great respect for the history of this place and a clear inner calling, I moved to this special place together with my daughter and our animals. At present, we are taking time to get to know the place, to renovate, and to gradually care for and enhance the property. It is our wish to preserve the special atmosphere of this place.
My intention is to continue running Lappnäs as a bed and breakfast – a place for people who love nature, value simplicity, and are open to rest, meaningful encounters, and perhaps even a new beginning. With the change of ownership, some things will naturally be different, especially for guests who have known Lappnäs for many years. I kindly ask for your understanding and openness towards what is now taking shape here. I look forward to welcoming you to Lappnäs and wish all guests a pleasant – and perhaps even unforgettable – stay.
As we originally come from Germany and the takeover happened unexpectedly and quite suddenly, we are still in the process of settling in. We are also continuing to learn the Swedish language and kindly ask for your patience and understanding if things do not always run perfectly right away.
Accommodation
Our rooms
We offer five rooms in the main building and two extra spaces, a total of 11 beds. All rooms have their own bathroom.
- Breakfast is included and served between 8 am and 9:30 am.
- Please let us know before you come if you have any food allergies or if there is something you don't eat, and we will take that into account at breakfast.
- Check-in at 4:00 pm at the earliest.
- Check-out no later than 10:00.
- Smoking is not permitted in any part of the house, nor at the house's entrances.

Wifi and TV
In the main building there is free Wi-Fi throughout the house. However, we do not have a TV.
Pets
Dogs are unfortunately only allowed in exceptional cases and by prior arrangement. We ourselves have three dogs and a cat that roams freely in the house.

Swimming
On the premises there are two private beaches and rocks to swim at.
- The beach: A shallow bathing cove with a lovely southerly aspect. Perfect for children. Here is also one of the cabins.
- The northern bay: A more secluded bay with a small beach. Proximity to the Rock cabin.
- Rock bathing: The entire cape is suitable for individual rock bathing. With about 200 meters towards Fryken, there is a place for everyone!
Activities
In the summer we have SUP boards and rowing boats (including life jackets) and bicycles to borrow..
Patios
Around the house there are several patios that are free to use.
Hiking
For those interested in hiking, a pilgrim trail, Fryksdalsleden, passes by right outside Lappnäs Bed & Breakfast.
Destinations
In Fryksdalen there are several places to visit and here are some that we can recommend.
- Mårbacka - Home Selma Lagerlöf, Nobel laureate in literature
- Rottneros park - Sculpture park in Sunne
- Alma Löv - Museum of Contemporary Art
Arrive by train
It is possible to get to and from Lappnäs by train. From the station Edsbjörke, about 1 km from Lappnäs, the train has several departures per day. The train goes north via Lysvik to Torsby and south to Sunne, Rottneros and Karlstad.
